The Linbury Gallery: Science Museum
On Monday 23rd September, The Master, Past Master John Caunt, Freeman Warden Stuart Pollitt, and a number of our Freemen and Apprentices, all who had had a role in helping the Science Museum with this exhibit, attended a reception at the Museum to celebrate the opening of this latest exhibition entitled Science City.
This exhibition unites three extraordinary collections of intricate scientific instruments from the Science Museum itself, the King George III collection from King's College London and objects and artworks lent by the Royal Society. These are tastefully displayed in a light and airy gallery, with suitable explanations of the exhibits.
Not only is this intended as a display of the Instruments themselves, but also as an important reminder of the pivotal role taken by the City of London, in the quest for new ideas, knowledge and practical techniques, leading to the development of these instruments, and the furtherance of the knowledge of this key field of 'Natural Philosophy'!
