At the end of October we held our annual Admission Court in our Hall, where the new Master and Wardens were admitted. They are (l to r): Senior Warden Professor Ken Grattan OBE, Master Ken Sanders, Junior Warden Martyn Wheatley.
Our new Clerk, Dr Misha Hebel, was also admitted on the same evening. Misha joins us from the Worshipful Company of Educators where she also held the position of Clerk. She takes over from Neville Watson who is retiring after having been our Clerk for the past 18 years.
At the Court meeting we also admitted five new Liverymen, three new Freemen, three new Honorary Freemen and three new Apprentices.

The dinner following the Court was one of the best attended for a long time, with some 180 SIM members and their guests.
The principal guest was Warren East. A colleague of Ken Sanders at Texas Instruments, Warren became Chief Executive of Rolls Royce in July 2015, after being appointed as a Non-Executive Director in 2014. Prior to that he worked for Arm Holdings plc where he was CEO from 2001 to 2013.
Warren talked about the challenges facing technology-driven industry, of the rapidly accelerating pace of development, the consequent need for more young people to be trained in modern technology and to enter the field, and the challenges of sustainability. Many people commented afterwards about how good it was to hear a technology CEO also talking about the environment.
After the dinner, the Deputy Master, Professor Ron Summers, presented this year’s SIM scholars and military award winners with their certificates. They were as follows:
