The Achievement Award winners with the Deputy Master, David W Smith. In spite of the inclement weather there was a magnificent turnout for the 2008 Achievement Award Dinner.
Tomoflow’s Multiphase Flow Imaging and Analysis System In the River Room Tomoflow demonstrated their Multiphase Flow Imaging and Analysis System. Based upon body scanning techniques, this device produces images of the flow of materials through pipes. The demonstration model was about 150mm diameter, but Professor Byers, one of the co-inventors expects that production equipments can be made to operate with much larger pipes. The images produced show clearly the bodies following though a cross section of the pipe.
The Tomoflow device allows multiphase flow measurements to be made giving access to complex velocity and concentration profiles. The technology applies to process industries, such as food, chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum and mining.
Guests were summoned to dinner by the beadle, and the Master, Wardens and Past masters were welcomed to the dining hall in the traditional way.

After welcoming guests, the Master introduced to the Livery, three new Liverymen: Silke Akermann, who is known to many as the Curator of Scientific Instruments at the British Museum; John Caunt who runs JCS which is a company focussed on the fields of nuclear radiation detection and measurement; Jane Fishwick who has a long career in instrumentation for the healthcare industry.
Arkwright Scholars The Master also welcomed Freeman Soren Demin, who works in biosensors in Cambridge, and our three new apprentices. Earlier in the day the Master and several members of the Court attended the binding of apprentices at Guildhall.
