Master and Wardens
The Master with Harry Tee, CBE, Senior Warden (left) and Brian Fishwick, Junior Warden (right)
I am greatly aware of the honour and privilege the Court has given by electing me as Master of this Livery Company for the ensuing year. To be able to represent the craft in which I have made my living for 45 years before retiring a decade ago is both exciting and daunting.· June and I look forward to the coming year with determination to enjoy the opportunity to participating the events of the City in which we were both born particularly as it coincides with our 50th wedding anniversary year. To be Master of a City of London Livery company is an awesome task, however I will do my best to maintain the traditions and progress the interests of our company.

My first task is to thank retiring Master David Smith for leading us through a successful and enjoyable year, he can be assured I shall be calling upon his help and advice as Deputy Master. Our company prospers by the team effort of the Senior Warden Harry Tee, Junior Warden Brian Fishwick, Past Masters and Assistants of the Court, to whom I am most grateful for their support and expertise.

Under the chairmanship of the Senior Warden we will continue to build upon and add to the initiatives started in the Educational Committee particularly the support of young students in schools and universities. The mentoring of the students and the institutions we fund to the benefits of being Freeman and Liveryman of the Company. We shall be increasing the support to Robert Seaman’s idea of co-operating with the GAPAN young members group, CASS Business School and the Special Interests Group in presentations and demonstrations to the City on Significant Weather & Climate Change Impacts for the City & Global Economy.

The S.I.G. has had some notable success and I would like to continue to see its growth particularly with emphasis on demonstrations of instruments and techniques in the biosciences.···

One underlying theme of the Masters’ statements by my predecessors has been the need to recruit suitable candidates for membership to the Livery. Our numbers are still below the authorised limit so I continue to beat the drum and ask all the present members to increase their efforts to promote the benefits of being a Freeman/Liveryman. A new leaflet for this purpose has been distributed to all Liverymen.

My gift to the Livery is a silver candelabrum symbolising the bioscience theme that has played a significant role in my career in the craft.

I would ask all Liverymen to attend as often as possible our functions and bring as many guests as they can.

Thank you again for the great honour, June and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during the year.
